We left from Malpensa Airport (Milan) on 12th December 2010. After a good flight which lasted two and a half hours, we arrived in Stockholm in the evening. We met our host families at the central station and our Swedish adventure began.
On Monday it was very nice to see the Lucia Parade performed by the Swedish students of Högsätra School. They sang traditional Swedish songs and they wore white dresses and they carried lots of candles as well. We took lots of pictures of this wonderful show! We also visited the school, which seemed to us to be very different from ours. We also had the chance to eat all together in the canteen where we tasted the typical Christmas porridge. In the afternoon we met all the students of the project and their teachers. It was fun playing together, teachers included.
During the following days we were busy in many activities: we sang famous songs, we played instruments and we danced, we attended some labs of origami, candles and handicraft. We had a great time together and we got the chance of sharing our countries’ traditions. In our free time we visited the Old Town: we took a fantastic tour but... it was really cold! A thick cover of snow was to be seen everywhere together with many beautiful Christmas decorations. On Wednesday we went to Skansen and to the Vasa Museum accompanied by our hosts. We had a walk along the old shops and houses, we admired some typical animals and Santa Clause’s House.
On Thursday we went to a goodbye party. We ate a typical Swedish fast-food meal and then we took part in a great show, full of songs and cheer. We took pictures all together and we exchanged our e-mails addresses to keep in touch.
On Friday we left our host family in the morning to go back to Italy. Unfortunately, it turned out to be more complicated than we had thought! Our flight was actually cancelled while we were already sitting on the aircraft. So, we had to spend the night at the airport and catch a flight to Brussels the next morning. Once arrived in Belgium, we then flew to Verona in the afternoon. On Sunday night we finally arrived home tired but happy.
It was an amazing and inspiring experience: I really hope to keep in touch with our new friends!
